Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the restriction on the length of my play? 

A:  Plays should be no longer than 15 minutes or about 10-15 pages.

Q: What is  the maximum number of characters I can have in my play?

A: Four (4).

Q: Are there any restrictions on content, theme or story?

A: No. Students can write about whatever they want as long as the idea is original. 

Q: Can I write an adaptation from another source or a musical

A: Plays should be original ideas from the writers therefore we are not accepting adaptations or musicals. 

Q: How many playwrights/plays will be selected?

A: Six (6).

Q: Who will my mentor be?

A: All students will have an individual mentor who will be a Twin Cities based theater professional, most likely a playwright or director.

Q: How will I work with my mentor?

A: You will meet and communicate with your mentor via zoom, phone or email. Mentors and students are not to meet in person until the events at Park Square Theatre in June 2026. If students do not have reliable internet other arrangements will be made for communication. 

Q: How long will I have to revise my play?

A: Approximately three months from the time your play is accepted. Your mentor will work closely with you during the process.

Q: When am I expected to be at Park Square Theatre?

A: All playwrights will be required to be at Park Square Theatre on June 26 from late afternoon to early evening and on June 27 from early afternoon to evening. No exceptions.

Q: Under what circumstances can my play be revoked?

A: Failure to work on revising your play  and meeting deadlines, keeping appointments with your mentors or inability to attend the required dates at Park Square Theater on June 26 and 27, 2026.

Q: Will my play have a public performance?

A: Yes, on June 27, 2026 at Park Square Theater. Plays will be performed and directed by Twin Cities based professional actors and directors. 

Q: How much is the honorarium?

A: $200.

Q: Do I have to provide my own transportation to all events at Park Square Theatre?

A: Yes. 

Q: Will participating in the program cost me anything?

A: No. The program is free of charge to the student and their school. 

Q: Will I continue to own the rights to my play?

A: Yes. Everything submitted and rewritten for the performance belongs to you.
